The Ontario, California, outbound tender rejection rate rose from less than 5% to 8.3% in the days surrounding Thanksgiving.
While tender rejection rates typically rise seasonally at that time, the Ontario market did not see a similar rise in the outbound tender rejection rate last year until late December, when it rose to exceed 10%. Rather, last year, the Ontario outbound tender rejection rate never exceeded 6% in the days surrounding Thanksgiving.
The implication is that there could be a real capacity crunch to move freight out of the West Coast and Inland Empire, with tender rejection rates meaningfully exceeding 10%, as we get deeper in the holiday season. Therefore, shippers should work to move freight early in the month.
