FMCSA puts $217 million behind CDL integrity, roadside enforcement and veteran driver pipelines

Four grant programs opened Monday with a June 17 deadline. The $89 million CDL Program Implementation tranche funds states cleaning up the national CDL database, including the conviction-processing lag that lets disqualified drivers slip through MVR pulls. For brokers, faster, cleaner state CDL data means tighter carrier vetting downstream just as Montgomery-era documentation expectations are forming.

Q1 cargo theft Overhaul report

Cargo theft dips in Q1, but deceptive-pickup fraud jumps 31% with California carrying nearly half

Overhaul logged 574 theft incidents in Q1, down 25% from Q4, but deceptive-pickup schemes using forged identities and impersonated carriers rose 31% year over year. Electronics took 17% of incidents, with auto parts up 142% sequentially. California and Texas accounted for more than half of reported activity. Identity manipulation is consolidating its position as the dominant attack vector.
