Minister LeBlanc’s Statement Regarding CUSMA Joint Review
On July 01, 2026 the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs, Internal Trade and One Canadian Economy, met with Mexico and U.S. representatives to review the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).
Canada’s commitment to CUSMA and its renewal was reaffirmed. The trade agreement supports jobs in every industry across North America and allows access to two of Canada’s most important trade partners.
The agreement will enter an annual review process, as U.S. officials opt not to extend the agreement.
CUSMA remains in force until 2036 and can be renewed at any time for an additional 16-year period.
Canada, Mexico, and the United States, agree to continue discussions, in the coming weeks and months.
For Canada this includes meaningful dialogue with the United States concerning tariffs on Canadian steel, aluminum, automobiles, and lumber.
