Ceva Logistics sued over theft of employee records during data breach

BY ERIC KULISCH · AMERICAN SHIPPER · SEP 2, 2026

A former Ceva Logistics employee filed a class action after a late-July cyberattack on eight European warehouses exposed bank account and Social Security numbers, alleging the $18.3 billion logistics provider failed to fix security gaps exposed by a similar breach a year earlier.

THE TAKE — THE TAKE — This is Ceva’s second reported breach in about a year, which is the detail plaintiffs’ attorneys will lean on hardest — shippers vetting 3PL partners should be asking not just whether a provider has had an incident, but what changed operationally after the last one.

Trans-Pacific spot rates reach new highs on resilient demand, port congestion

Asia-U.S. West Coast rates rose 2% to $7,621/FEU and East Coast rates climbed to $9,791/FEU as an unusually early and resilient peak season collided with typhoon-driven congestion at Shanghai and Ningbo, even as Asia-Europe rates cooled from their July highs.

THE TAKE — THE TAKE — Carriers are adding September capacity but planning blank sailings around China’s Golden Week, so the congestion relief may be short-lived — shippers with cargo timed around early October should build in extra buffer before rates potentially spike again.

Port inspection leads to $10M counterfeit Nike, Adidas seizure in California

Los Angeles County’s counterfeit task force seized nearly 26,000 fake Nike and Adidas items worth about $10 million from an Arcadia warehouse after intercepting a bulk shipment at a port entry point, part of a pattern that saw roughly 200,000 counterfeit items recovered countywide in the past year.

THE TAKE — THE TAKE — A single warehouse holding $10 million in counterfeit goods shows how much fake merchandise is still slipping past initial customs screening and getting caught only downstream — brand-owner shippers should keep pushing for earlier-stage inspection partnerships rather than relying on after-the-fact enforcement.

Northeast port breaks ground on $3.2 million in new upgrades

The Maine Port Authority broke ground on a $3.2 million federally backed upgrade to Portland’s International Marine Terminal, adding full-depth pavement, better stormwater drainage and new bi-fold speed gates as part of a push to build out refrigerated logistics capacity.

THE TAKE — THE TAKE — The refrigerated-container focus signals Portland wants a bigger share of cold-chain freight, not just general cargo — shippers moving perishables through the Northeast should keep an eye on this terminal’s capacity once the October completion date hits.

Private equity group rolls up 3 small firms for courier network

Trident Management-backed Priority Courier Experts bought Priority Dispatch, Diamond Expedited and Inpax Shipping Solutions, pushing its combined delivery volume past 1 million pieces a year and adding Southern market density to its existing Midwest footprint.

THE TAKE — THE TAKE — Regional courier consolidation keeps accelerating as private equity chases last-mile density — shippers using small independent couriers in the Midwest or Southeast should expect ownership changes to keep coming, and should confirm service levels survive the integration.
