Ottawa Implements Counter-Tariffs to Protect Domestic Industries, Adds Multi-Billion-Dollar Regional Support for Impacted Supply Chains

Counter-tariffs now target approximately $27.6 billion in annual U.S. imports, with applicable surtax rates of 15%, 25% or 50%. Businesses may apply for remission where tariffs create exceptional operational challenges or disrupt critical supply chains. The government has also launched the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI), providing $3.45 billion over four years to help tariff-impacted small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through market diversification, liquidity support, supply chain resilience and targeted assistance for the steel sector. Eligibility and application timelines vary by region. See more.
