The Seattle outbound tender rejection rate increased 295 basis points in the past week to 7.69%. That’s ahead of the national tender rejection rate of 5.83%. The Seattle tender rejection rate hasn’t been meaningfully ahead of the national rate since early September.
The increase in rejection rate does not appear to be driven by higher outbound volume. The Seattle Outbound Tender Volume Index of 77.85 is towards the low of its 52-week range of 68-110.
The rising tender rejection rate for outbound Seattle loads appears to be part of a trend of rising rates in many of the western U.S. markets, while tender rejection rates are falling in many eastern markets. One could surmise that carriers have responded to the poor long-haul volume this year by chasing fewer loads that would result in available capacity in the western freight markets.
