Cincy sees a capacity squeeze

SONAR Key Market Insights: Cincinnati, Ohio

Highlights

Capacity in Cincinnati is tightening and will continue to over the next few days as the Fourth of July comes and carriers look to take advantage of the long weekend. Outbound tender rejections rose 2.8% week over week to 12.26%.

Outbound tender volumes are rising 10.1% w/w adding additional strain to the market.

The increased OTVI combined with the OTRI staying above 10% does indicate that spot rates are slightly inflated in the Cincinnati market meaning shippers can expect for contract carrier compliance to erode until spot rates come back down.

Quotable

“[O]ther commodities like home improvements have a significantly higher level of Chinese manufacturing due to the nature of the goods. This is not just a short-term tactical reaction to escalating geopolitical tensions, but rather a long-term strategic move to future-proof supply chains and remain resilient.”
