Saia’s shares up after tonnage turns positive in November

Less-than-truckload carrier Saia announced that tonnage moved back into positive territory on a year-over-year comparison in November. The Tuesday update reversed a three-month slide in volumes.

UPS, FedEx up fuel surcharge rates for domestic, ground deliveries

On Monday, FedEx implemented an increase to its fuel surcharge calculations for domestic package and express freight services, along with ground and home delivery offerings. Starting Jan. 5, UPS’ fuel surcharge calculations will increase for similar services such as UPS Ground domestic, Ground Saver and domestic air offerings.

Spot dry van linehaul rates increased by $0.07 per mile last week, settling at an average of $1.75 per mile. This rate is just $0.05 higher than the same week last year or slightly less than 3%.
In the 13 key Midwest states, which represent 45% of national load volume and often indicate future national trends, spot rates increased by $0.06 per mile to $1.97 per mile, which was $0.22 above the national 7-day rolling average.

The 10.67-acre properties are at 100 Don Truell Lane in Thomasville Business Park. The combined site has 162,000 square feet of space.
