Tariff Update: U.S. Announces Section 301 Duties on Brazilian Imports
Effective July 22, 2026, a 25% Section 301 tariff will apply to certain products of Brazilian origin, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced.
The action includes an “on-the-water” provision for eligible goods that were loaded onto a vessel and in transit before the effective date. The USTR has also provided exemptions for certain products, including:
- Specific raw materials;
- Products that could cause significant economy-wide disruptions if subject to the tariff;
- Products that cannot be produced in sufficient quantities, or at reasonable prices, in the United States; and
- Articles for which the tariff is not expected to materially contribute to addressing the acts, policies, and practices identified in the Section 301 investigation of Brazil.
Companies sourcing products of Brazilian origin should review the USTR’s final determination and applicable exclusions to assess potential impacts on their supply chains and import compliance obligations.
