IMPORTANT NOTICE – Piece level quantity required for USA bound shipments
Dear Valued Customer,
As part of Polaris’ ongoing commitment to compliant and efficient cross-border service, we would like to highlight an important requirement for shipments moving into the United States.
For all U.S.-bound freight filed through ACE (Automated Commercial Environment), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requires accurate piece-level quantity information. This means invoices must clearly reflect the actual number of pieces, not just skid or pallet counts.
Why does this matter?
CBP uses piece-level data to assess risk, validate cargo details, and enforce compliance. When invoices only list skids or pallets without a breakdown of the pieces and commodity, it can result in CBP penalties, shipment delays, or enforcement actions, regardless of intent. As the carrier and filer, Polaris is held accountable for the data submitted, even when the source information is incomplete.
While we leverage automation and validation tools to support accuracy, we rely heavily on the information provided by shippers and their brokers. Inaccurate or incomplete piece counts cannot always be corrected downstream and may expose all parties to avoidable fines.
How you can help:
-
Share this requirement with your shippers, vendors, and customs brokers
-
Please ensure your commercial invoices include clear piece-level quantities
As a reminder, Country of Origin marking on all shipments is still required (permanently labelled and marked). Your support in ensuring this with your client is truly appreciated.
