Amazon has been delivering packages by drone since February from its 465,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Darlington, England — the first location outside the United States where Prime Air has expanded. The move follows nearly a decade of promises, delays and regulatory setbacks for the program in the U.S.
The U.K.’s Civil Aviation Authority has approved the operation, and eligible customers within a 7.5-mile radius of the Darlington site can get orders under 5 pounds dropped in their yard within 60 minutes. A mobile robot called Hercules moves orders to associates for packing, and the MK30 drone uses onboard sensors and real-time weather checks to decide when it’s safe to fly.

Camera Data · Insurance Costs
Midwest LTL carrier Dohrn finished converting its roughly 900-truck fleet to dual-facing AI event recorders about a year ago, and accidents have fallen nearly 20% since. President and CEO Robert Howard told FreightWaves the push came from inside the company, not from insurers — owning clean experience data, he said, is what lets a fleet write its own renewal instead of accepting the industry’s rising rates.

Freight Data · Network Modeling
Optimus previewed its Freight Intelligence Graph, a network twin modeling roughly 350,000 U.S. highway nodes and nearly 1 million road segments atop a data layer covering 450,000-plus shipper and receiver roles. Rather than just describing today’s freight flows, the tool is built to model how a shock — like a hurricane hitting Houston — ripples into rerouted capacity and pricing pressure in markets far from the storm.

AI Ops · Load Profitability
MapUp launched FuelGuru MCP, which it calls the first production Model Context Protocol server built for fleet fuel, tolls and truck routing — letting any AI dispatch agent or TMS copilot ask what a trip will actually net. In one example, a $1,800, 773-mile dry van load from Harvey, Illinois, to Philadelphia penciled out to roughly $1,052 left over after route-specific fuel and tolls, numbers a posted rate alone never reveals.

AI Ops · Operational Integration
NFI Transportation Management was named a 2026 AI Excellence in Supply Chain Awards honoree for a build-versus-buy AI strategy spanning operations and the back office. Agentic AI now handles load tracking through web scraping, email monitoring and automated phone check-ins, and NFI says the broader push has reclaimed more than 100 hours a week of back-office time — freeing capacity equivalent to four full-time employees.
