Broker Liability
A Dallas County judge has refused to disturb the July jury verdict against C.H. Robinson, affirming the $604 million award tied to a 2021 Mississippi crash that killed three people. The judgment also carries roughly $107 million in pre-judgment interest at 6.75%, and TD Cowen’s Jason Seidl notes that a multi-year appeal would let that interest compound. The bigger worry for brokers may be the jury’s finding that the Lupus Superior driver was operating under C.H. Robinson’s control, which would make the broker vicariously liable for the driver’s share of fault. C.H. Robinson says it did not cause the crash, points to the carrier’s Satisfactory FMCSA rating, and is calling for a clear national standard for what counts as a safe carrier.
STATUS — If this “control” finding survives appeal, a broker’s vetting file and how hands-off you are with a carrier’s drivers could matter as much as the carrier’s rating. Worth a conversation with your counsel this week.

Global Logistics
DHL Group lifted its 2026 profit forecast, now expecting EBIT above €7 billion (about $7.8 billion) and citing a “robust” holiday peak. Third-quarter EBIT came in up about 16% year over year and ahead of analyst estimates, led by DHL Express, where adjusted operating profit jumped nearly 50% on better yield, cost efficiencies and a tighter focus on heavyweight air freight. Global Forwarding and Supply Chain also posted gains, while eCommerce and Post & Parcel Germany slipped. DHL also raised its free cash flow outlook and its capital spending plans, with full third-quarter results due Nov. 5.
STATUS — A global giant betting on a strong Q4 is a good sign for volume, and a tight air market is still firming rates. Lock in peak capacity conversations now if you haven’t.

Fraud & Liability
A Los Angeles County jury awarded nearly $9.4 million to medical supply distributor Ashtel Studios after finding Wyoming-based Oak Sourcing & Logistics and its managing member, Matthew Sandvig, liable for intentional misrepresentation tied to a failed $9.5 million order of nitrile gloves. Ashtel said it was told Oak Sourcing had an $800 million PPE contract and hospital supply commitments, and the buyer’s end customer turned out to be another intermediary. The jury also found $4.27 million owed on a separate open-book claim. Ashtel gave up punitive damages in exchange for the defendants waiving post-trial challenges and appeals, and a bench trial on alter-ego claims involving a related company is still ahead. FreightWaves notes that court records do not establish Oak Sourcing as a licensed freight broker.
STATUS — A reminder that misrepresenting your capacity or your customer base can turn a contract dispute into fraud. Keep your claims to counterparties documented and defensible.

Last Mile
Ceva Logistics is folding its France-focused last-mile unit Colis Privé into Paack, the Spain- and Portugal-based network it bought in early August, and will roll out a single Paack brand to customers starting in January. That is a reversal of the original plan, which had Colis Privé absorbing Paack. The combined business handles about 150 million parcels a year through a network of roughly 17,000 out-of-home delivery points, and Ceva expects Paack’s technology to strengthen route planning, real-time tracking and returns management. The move fits parent CMA CGM’s push to own more of the end-to-end delivery chain.
STATUS — More consolidation in European e-commerce delivery. If you move cross-border parcels, expect fewer, bigger last-mile partners to deal with.

Broker Disputes
Chicago-based Edge Logistics has sued Utah brokerage Freight Tec Management Group and four former employees in federal court, alleging they quietly set up competing agent businesses while still on Edge’s payroll and moved customer accounts over using confidential pricing and lane data. Edge says its expedited division fell 66.4% within weeks of the May departures, though the filing does not say what that figure measures, and it also alleges kickbacks to a customer decision-maker funded by inflated freight charges. The 11-count complaint seeks an injunction and damages, and the defendants dispute the claims. None of the allegations has been proven, and responses are due Dec. 1.
STATUS — If you rely on agents or hire from rivals, check noncompete and nonsolicit terms before the account moves, because these fights get expensive fast. Allegations only for now.
