Truckload demand is up 9.17% over last week in the market of Twin Falls, Idaho — a region responsible for significant volumes of produce, particularly (true to stereotypes) potatoes. Volumes have nevertheless fallen 28% from year-ago levels.
Capacity in the region is tightening somewhat, as Twin Falls’ average rejection rate has risen 123 basis points from last week to 6.7%.
October is historically when the peak of potato harvesting starts to fade. Even so, the state continues to move large quantities of produce: Idaho put 21.1 million pounds of spuds (and 9.7 million pounds of onions) into reefers over the past 30 days, per USDA data. Those figures are equivalent to over 700 fully-loaded reefer trailers, which is no small potatoes.
