Ocean
BY STUART CHIRLS · AMERICAN SHIPPER · NOVEMBER 4, 2026
Ocean Network Express raised its full-year net profit forecast from $900 million to $2 billion after quarterly profit rose to $1.318 billion on revenue up about 41%.
THE TAKE — The upgrade is its second this fiscal year and rests on freight rates averaging $1,709 per TEU versus $1,252, with trans-Pacific demand supported by inventory replenishment and data center and industrial equipment shipments. The outlook still expects seasonal demand to moderate and spot rates to ease in the second half, and it assumes Hormuz conditions persist and Suez transits recover only gradually, so the forecast is exposed to Middle East developments.

Ocean
Carriers are seeking $2,000 to $3,000 per FEU in November increases, but forwarders doubt they will stick as space availability and schedules improve.
THE TAKE — Rates are holding rather than climbing: East Coast rates near $9,900 per FEU were down 6% on the week, West Coast about $8,300, and Linerlytica called the Nov. 1 Asia–Northern Europe increase "effectively doomed" as carriers discounted early-November bookings. The possible LA–Long Beach security workers’ strike and Suez routing are the wildcards that could change that.

Logistics
FedEx has moved hundreds of aircraft engines since June 2025 and began serving 13 major automotive customers in the third quarter through dedicated logistics processes.
THE TAKE — Engine moves are up 15-fold, and the aircraft-on-ground process with its own quoting center and digital platform shows FedEx building specialty services where margins and stickiness are higher. AI and data center was its fastest-growing vertical, while healthcare grew double digits. The model competes with Expeditors, Kuehne+Nagel and Ceva, which also run AOG operations.

Air Cargo
China Central Longhao Airlines began twice-weekly 747-400 freighter service from Zhengzhou to East Midlands Airport, adding to a growing roster of Chinese e-commerce carriers.
THE TAKE — East Midlands handled a near-record 413,000 metric tons in 2025 and is targeting 500,000 by 2030, with cargo through September up 5%. The airline also holds U.S. authority to Chicago and Los Angeles, though Flightradar24 shows no flights there yet, so its trans-Pacific plans are still unproven.
