Trade Remedies Update: CBSA Announces New Investigations, Extensions, and Expiry Decisions

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has announced several updates under the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA). The CBSA also extended the time period for its investigations into decorative and non-structural plywood and its administrative review of certain power transformers. Read more.

Customs Update: Finance Canada Clarifies Scope of Canned Vegetables Surtax Order

CBSA Finance Canada has clarified that the 10% safeguard surtax on certain imported canned vegetables applies only to products that meet two very strict conditions. All listed vegetables must be packed in metal cans for the surtax to apply. Learn more. 

Compliance Alert: Canada Mandates Country of Smelt and Cast (CSC) Reporting for Aluminum Imports

The Government of Canada has published regulatory amendments under SOR/2026-136. Starting October 1, 2026, importers of certain aluminum products must report CSC information when accounting for goods under GIP 83. The new requirements only apply to certain shipments but failure to provide accurate CSC data may result in AMPS penalties. Find out more.

National Organic Program (NOP) Reminder

CPSC eFiling Now Live

Starting July 8, 2026, importers of CPSC-regulated products must electronically submit product certificate data to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the time of entry. Importers are responsible for providing the required certificate data to their customs broker. Learn more.
