We want to bring to your attention a significant trade development that may impact your operations.
On August 22, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada will eliminate all tariffs on goods from the United States that are covered under the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), effective September 1, 2025.
This move is aimed at reinforcing the strong trade relationship between Canada and the U.S. and supporting Canadian businesses. However, tariffs on steel, aluminum, and autos will remain in place as both countries continue discussions on a broader trade framework.
Despite ongoing U.S. tariffs on certain sectors, 85% of Canada-U.S. trade remains tariff-free, offering Canadian importers a continued competitive edge.
Critical note: This is an initial announcement. We are awaiting further policy details and will provide a comprehensive update as soon as more information becomes available.
